Graham Ellard and Stephen Johnstone have collaborated since 1993. Since 2007 they have worked exclusively in 16mm film, concerned broadly with the altered forms of attention, and the resulting intensity of looking, that comes from using a lens to frame architectural space, magnify details and capture fleeting atmospheric effects.

Their work has been exhibited in museums and galleries internationally, including; Centre Georges Pompidou; Tate Liverpool; MOCA, Sydney; Rotterdam International Film Festival; the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; MAXXI, Rome; Triennale Design Museum, Milan;Anthology Film Archives, New York; Stroom Den Hague; Guggenheim New York, and at The Satellite Gallery, Nagoya as a Parallel Event in the Aichi Triennale, Japan, 2013 and 2016.

Their book, Anthony McCall: Notebooks and Conversations was published by Lund Humphries, London, in February 2015.

Ellard is Professor of Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Johnstone is Professor of Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London.
