  • Every year, an alumnus from GAP or another department at Tokyo University of the Arts participates in The Studio Nextdoor (となりのスタジオ) — a collaborative project between the university, the city, and an art NPO. Working together with artists and students from Sanno Elementary School in Toride, the project aims to nurture each child’s unique sensibility and to encourage flexible thinking and perspective toward future society. This year, Zhang Shengyang (Sam), who graduated from GAP this March, joined the project as a collaborating artist. Under the theme “Growing Chairs”, the children let their imaginations run free to design their own chairs. Using old, unused chairs and eco-friendly materials, they worked together to “grow” these creations within each classroom.
