2024 GAP Hokkaido Unit program
Sep 16th-23rd
Lead by Pro. Suzuki Hiraku

Starting from Ayoro beach and Afunrupar(The entrance to afterworld), the students explored the huge nature in Shiraoi of Hokkaido on their first arrive.

Then, be engaged in Upopoy tour, had the lecture by curator, experienced in different workshop, students learned about the minority culture in Hokkaido - Ainu culture. From there, they had deep comunication with the Ainu association - dancing, singing, discussing and sharing ideas with the local people.

Besides, by visiting Noboribetsu cultural exchange center, Temiya cave, Fugoppe cave and several stone circle heritage, students also explored the traces left by people from Jomon and Epi-Jomon period.

Except for the historical and culture elements, by visiting Tobiu art community, Roots & Arts, Kan-Yoh studio and Brew gallery, students also had opportunity to exchange ideas with the artists and curators.

Nobuyuki Fujiwara Retirement Commemorative Exhibition~The 20-Year Trajectory of Glass Art Laboratory~
This exhibition commemorates the retirement of Nobuyuki Fujiwara, who guided students at the Glass Art Laboratory, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts, and commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Glass Art Laboratory.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Glass Art Laboratory, which was established in 2005. Fujiwara, who has been involved in the laboratory since its founding and will retire this year, can be said to have spent the years as a faculty member in the history of the Glass Art Laboratory itself. Retirement exhibitions are often held in the form of solo exhibitions, but this exhibition will be a group exhibition with more than 50 exhibitors, including alumni of Fujiwara and the Glass Art Laboratory, former faculty members, current students, and current faculty members.
On the first floor of the exhibition hall, works by Fujiwara, current students and current faculty members from Glass Art Laboratory will be exhibited; On the second floor, works by alumni and former faculty members will be exhibited. Besides, on the first floor, there are also works from alumni and current students from GAP (Global Art Practice), another discipline in which Fujiwara has been involved.

藤原信幸退任記念展〜ガラス造形20年の軌跡〜
本展覧会は、東京藝術大学美術学部工芸科ガラス造形研究室で学生の指導にあたってきた藤原信幸の退任記念展、及び、ガラス造形研究室の20周年記念展です。
本学において、2005年度に創設されたガラス造形研究室は、今年度で20年を迎えます。創設当初より当研究室に携わり、本年度で退任を迎える藤原が教員として過ごした年月はガラス造形研究室の歴史そのものといえます。個展形式で開催されることの多い退任展ですが、本展は、藤原とガラス造形研究室の卒業生、教員経験者、現在の在籍学生、現教員が出展する、総勢50名を超えるグループ展として開催します。
陳列館1階に、藤原と現在のガラス造形研究室在籍学生、現教員の作品を、2階に、卒業生と教員経験者の作品を展示します。また、1階には、藤原が関わってきたもうひとつの分野GAP(グローバルアートプラクティス)の卒業生も出展します。

It is important to learn transcultural and diverse perspectives in the art of our time. Global Art Joint Project(UNIT program) is the core of M1’s GAP Forum curriculum. In the past weekend, Professor Lee Mina has led some M1 members of GAP to South Korea. They visited art institutions in Busan, Gwangju, and went to the biennales in both places. Next week, they will travel to Seoul and take a research trip to Korea DMZ as a part of this program.

Meanwhile, research trip to Hokkaido and Thailand are also conducted under Professor Suzuki Hiraku and Professor Imamura Yusaku.

Instead of making a perfect ceramic work, the students were encouraged to think about the connections between their body and the work. To touch, to listen, to watch, to feel the vibration from the soil and ceramic during the process of centering.

2024 GAP Kobiken trip.
For this year, we started from visiting Takenaka carpentry tools museum to understand the tools and history and stories back behind. And then visited the most advanced Japanese house 100 years’ ago - Chouchiku kyo. After that, We visited old temples and shrines in Nara and Kyoto. Besides, as optional tour, some students also visited Japanese sweet’s factory and Japanese paper workshop.

Students of GAP visited Professor Yasushi Okada's lab in the TUA art conservation department as a pre-session of their Kobiken (古美研) research trip in July, which is a unique opportunity to study classical Japanese art (including cultural assets and national treasures) in Nara and Kyoto.

They learned about the materials, tools, and techniques of making classical statues, as well as the history of cultural exchanges of classical Buddhist sculptures.
