【GAP M2 Award 2024】
We are pleased to present a selected exhibition featuring two students who were the 2nd-year graduate students made the most significant contributions to the GAP program in the 2024 academic year.
2024 GAP M2 Award : Juli Lee, Hal Xing
Global Art Practice (GAP) was established in April 2016 within the Graduate School of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts and has functioned as a space for practice and learning, addressing global social issues from diverse perspectives. We will continue our activities so that many more wonderful talents can be nurtured from GAP, where people from many different countries and speaking many different languages spend their daily lives together, and so that this daily life can also contribute to the way Tokyo University of the Arts is.

Ichida Family’s house, registered as a cultural heritage property of Japan, was built in Meiji Period and has housed many people and students over its 100-year history.
During Japan’s period of modernization, the traditional houses and surrounding neighborhood began to gradually disappear.
In response, a group of people came together with the intention of preserving the traditional atmosphere—keeping the houses “alive” by inviting others to live in them and engage with the space through exhibitions and events.
This time, we, too, have this opportunity to spend five days here. During our stay, we are inviting anyone to choose a spot within the space and engage with it—by bringing something that makes the first encounter of the shared space, feel personally more comfortable.

How to participate:
- You will have an overview of all the places that are available in the space. (You can see them either on nai-ken-ten-kai.github.io/ken.html or physically as prints on site.)
- Think of what can be in this space. It does not have to be an “artwork”.
- Choose one of the photos (the space corresponding to the photo) and its ID number
- Inform us online/ on site

You can either bring something or send data/instructions online, by
6th of September 2025
Or, you can just drop by to take a rest.
An important condition as a housing guest is not to harm the space.
The space should be returnable to its former state with no traces.
【M2 GAP賞 2024】
2024年度のGAPプログラムに修士2年生として最も活発に参加し貢献した大学院生2名による選抜展を開催します。
2024年度M2GAP賞 : Juli Lee, Hal Xing
GAP専攻は2016年4月に東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科に開設され、グローバル社会の課題に多様な視点で向き合う実践と学びの場として活動してきました。多国籍多言語での日常を共に過ごすGAPから、今後も多くの素晴らしい才能が育まれるよう、そしてその日常が東京藝大の在り方にも貢献していかれるよう、活動を続けて参ります。

場所：市田邸；東京都台東区上野桜木1-6-2
市田邸は、日本の文化財に登録されており、明治時代に建てられ、戦後から今日に至る100年以上の歴史の中で、多くの住人や学生を迎えてきました。
日本の近代化の過程で、伝統的な家屋や周囲の町並みは徐々に姿を消していきました。
そのような中で、人々は家を「生きたもの」として使い続けようと集まり、他者が滞在し、展示やイベントを通して空間と関わることを続けてきました。
今回、私たちも市田邸の一階で5日間を過ごさせていただけました。期間中は、誰もがこの空間の中から好きな場所を選び、そこに何かを持ち込むなどして、この共有空間との出会いを自分なりに心地よく感じられるようにしてください。
