“As a matter of fact fantasy 実は” is an invitation to immerse oneself deeply in the unbridledcreativity of a class of artists from a wide variety of backgrounds. The artists featured in thiscatalog are represented by the Global Art Practice department of Tokyo University of the Arts. Collectively, they work across borders to present a multifaceted weave of ideas, dreams andvisions. These creations, beyond simple visual compositions, become living testimonies to areality intertwined with imagination, revealing a rich diversity of artistic expression.As artists, they focus on art as a space to support a variety of perspectives, reflecting thedifferences and similarities that characterises us. Through these pages, the collective of art-ists invites the audience to contemplate beauty in diversity, to explore the twists and turns ofcreative thought, and to push back the borders of contemporary artistic expression.This catalogue unfolds as a cross-cultural journey, where individual nuances merge to createa singular visual network of stories. This visual dialogue between cultures, perspectives andindividual aspirations invites us to reflect on a key insight: that art, in reality, is a matter offantasy.Global Art Practice is a new major established by Tokyo University of the Arts in 2016, andas an experimental and challenging place, it attracts a wide variety of artists from Japan andaround the world. It offers a diversified, practical approach to art. With a focus on interdis-ciplinary, it challenges students to explore different artistic forms and engage with diversecultural perspectives.
