“I filmed my family napping. Reflected off-screen on a small mirror ball, grains of sunlight reaching from much further away fell on their sleeping faces. It looked like a big baby or a likeness of death.”
In this work, Sleeping in the Light, the video is given two texts of different natures, mediated by a book and a performer, and presented as two works, an installation and a performance.
The major themes common to both works are “death” and “family.” After a person’s death, various words are used to interpret, comfort, and repose the soul, all of which are very important, but always leave out more than a few things.
In this exhibition, Koki Fujinaka will look at various aspects of “death” and “family” through two different texts, an essay (non-fiction) and a fiction, and attempt to access and care for the “body that is not here” through the sculpture and the performer’s body. In a society with a declining and aging population, the situation of facing the body of a family member comes to many people. If we follow the passage opened by the technique of care in reverse, we will be able to rethink the body in front of us and our own body that lives it from the inside out.
The rehearsals and performances will be documented through drawings by artist Ai Ono and examined through a dialogue with philosopher Yusuke Hasegawa. In addition to video, text, performers, and sculpture, the eyes of the artist and the words of others will be used to approach “death,” “family,” and the body in a multilayered way.

本作『光の中で眠る』では、映像に性質の異なる二つのテキストが与えられ、本や演者が媒介となり、インスタレーションとパフォーマンスの二作品として公開されます。
二作に共通する大きなテーマとなるのは「死」と「家族」です。人の死のあとには様々な言葉によって解釈や慰み、鎮魂が試みられ、そのどれもがとても重要で、しかし常に取りこぼす事柄の方が多いものです。
今回、藤中はエッセイ（ノンフィクション）とフィクションという性質の異なる二つのテキストによって「死」と「家族」にまつわる様々な側面に目を向け、彫刻制作や演者の身体を通して「ここにない体」へのアクセスとケアを試みます。人口減と高齢化の社会において、家族の身体に向き合う状況は多くの人に訪れます。ケアの技法によって開かれる通路を逆に辿れば、目の前にある体や、それを内側から生きる自分の体をも新たに捉え直すことができるでしょう。
稽古と公演の様子はアーティスト・小野愛のドローイングによって記録され、哲学者・長谷川祐輔との対話を通して検討されます。映像・テキスト・演者・彫刻に加え、絵を描く目と他者の言葉によって、多層的に「死」と「家族」、そして身体へと迫ります。
