Global Art Practice (GAP) at Tokyo University of the Arts is pleased to present a special talk event as outlined below.
We are delighted to welcome Jun KITAZAWA, an artist who has been actively engaged in artistic practices in both Japan and Indonesia. In this session, Kitazawa will speak about his artistic practice grounded in fieldwork in Indonesia, his involvement in local collectives, and his latest work Fragile Gift, currently presented in Roppongi Crossing 2025.
In collaboration with Kitazawa, the session will also feature a report on the GAP Global Art Collaborative Program, commonly known as the Long Unit, which was conducted in Indonesia earlier this year. The program involved learning from and working with key art collectives and initiatives, including Riwanua in Makassar, Gudskul in Jakarta, and Kitazawa’s collective KITA in Yogyakarta. Through these experiences, participants explored contemporary art scenes in Indonesia and artistic practices addressing social issues.
From this year onward, the Long Unit program has been opened to graduate students beyond the GAP Program. In the 2025 Indonesia Unit, students from Intermedia Art and Aesthetics & Art History also participated. Those interested in joining future Long Units are warmly encouraged to attend this session.
In addition, we are pleased to share that Tokyo University of the Arts has recently signed its first international exchange agreement with an Indonesian institution, Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta (Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta). An introduction to the student exchange program, scheduled to begin in 2027, will also be included.
This event is highly recommended for those interested in Jun Kitazawa’s work, contemporary art scenes in Indonesia and Asia, artistic approaches to social issues, and opportunities for exchange program in Yogyakarta.

Profile of Jun KITAZAWA :
Artist. Born in Tokyo in 1988, based in Yogyakarta. Completed a doctoral program at Tokyo University of the Arts. Visiting lecturer of Gadja Mada University (2021–2024), currently a part-time lecturer at the School of Art and Design, University of Tsukuba (2023–), and a member of the collective KITA. He was named to the Forbes “30 Under 30 Asia 2016” list in the Arts category.
In the early 2010s, initiated art projects across Japan that generated “alternative daily life.” In 2016, spent a year in Indonesia as a fellow of the Japan Foundation Asia Center. After working on projects spanning both countries, he relocated to the historic city of Yogyakarta in 2020. Through fieldwork in Java and the island societies of Southeast Asia, he explores “ambiguous cultures” that introduce fluidity into communal spaces and human relationships. Drawing from markets, street stalls, play, transportation, rituals, and festivals, he creates works and collaborative projects that envision new forms of community and everyday life within contemporary society. One of his recent projects, Fragile Gift, involved recreating the Japanese fighter aircraft “Hayabusa,” brought to Indonesia during the Japanese colonial era, as a life-sized kite wrapped in historical records. Collaborating with Indonesian artisans, the work was sent and flown through the sky along the reverse route of the occupation.
このたび、東京藝術大学グローバルアートプラクティス（GAP）では、下記の通り特別トークイベントを開催いたします。
日本とインドネシアの両地域にて精力的な実践を展開されている北澤潤さんをゲストにお迎えし、インドネシアでのフィールドワークを基盤とした作家活動や、現地でのコレクティブ的な取り組み、また、六本木クロッシング2025にて発表されているの新作「Fragile Gift」についてお話を伺います。
また北澤さんにもご協力頂き、今年インドネシアで実施されたGAPグローバルアート共同プログラム、通称ロングユニットの報告を行います。マッカサルのコレクティブであるリアヌア、ジャカルタのグッドスクル、そしてジョグジャカルタでの北澤さんによるキタなど、近年注目されているインドネシアでのアートシーンやアートを通した社会課題に取り組む活動などを学ぶ機会となったユニットの活動をご紹介します。今年からロングユニットはGAP専攻以外の美術研究科の学生も参加できることになりました。今年のインドネシアユニットには先端芸術表現と芸術学科の学生が参加しました。来年度以降のロングユニットに参加を考えている方はぜひご参加ください。
さらに本年、インドネシア芸術大学（ISI）ジョグジャカルタ校と初めてインドネシアの大学と東京藝術大学の国際交流協定を結ぶことが出来ました。2027年からは交換留学が開始予定ののご紹介も行います。

美術家。東京都生まれ、ジョグジャカルタ在住。東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科博士後期課程修了。インドネシア国立ガジャ・マダ大学客員講師（2021-2024）筑波大学芸術専門学群非常勤講師（2023―）。フォーブス「30 Under 30 Asia 2016」アート部門選出、コレクティブKITAメンバー。
2010年代前半、日本を拠点に「もうひとつの日常」を生み出すアートプロジェクトを各地で展開。2016年に国際交流基金アジアセンター・フェローとしてインドネシアに１年滞在。２つの国にまたがるプロジェクトを実践したのち、2020年から古都ジョグジャカルタに移住。ジャワ島を中心に東南アジアの島嶼社会をフィールドワークしながら、共同体が営む空間や人の関係性に流動性をもたらす「両義的な文化」に着目する。市場や屋台、遊びや乗り物、儀礼や祝祭を参照した作品と、人々との協働によるプロジェクトの実践を通して、新たな共同体の姿とその日常を、現代社会の中に描き出す。最新のプロジェクトに、植民地時代に日本から持ち込まれた戦闘機「隼」を、インドネシアの職人たちと共に当時の記録を纏った実寸大の凧として作り出し、占領時代とは逆のルートで送り届け空へと飛ばす「Fragile Gift」がある
