How have women been portrayed within the realm of art? Gender’s asymmetry, the man’s view and the viewed woman, is a traditional representation as well as a concept that is seen to be the norm by the current society. However, the undercurrent of violence that exists in artistic expressions, like the relationship between the artist and the model, has started to be reconsidered in Japan as well, due to the recent movements like #MeToo. It is important for artists to carefully consider the issues surrounding gender more than ever. In this lecture held at Tokyo University of the Arts, we are inviting Dr. Chizuko Ueno, who is one of the pioneering researchers specializing in gender and is also a leading theorist and sociologist. We will examine the relationship between gender and expression from various angles including, sexuality, narcissism, symbolism of nude and sexual organs and the politics that exists in the gaze. This lecture will be a fantastic opportunity to think about an old but new theme of art and gender from a contemporary point of view.

アートの中で女性はどのように描かれてきたのでしょうか。見る男性、見られる女性というジェンダーの非対称性は、表象世界の伝統、そして社会通念の中に当たり前のように存在しています。しかし、最近の#MeToo運動の影響もあり、アーティストとモデルの関係など、表現活動がはらむ暴力性は日本でも意識されるようになってきました。ジェンダーを取り巻く問題を熟慮することは、アーティストにとってますます重要になってきています。今回東京藝術大学では、ジェンダー研究のパイオニアであり、指導的な理論家である社会学者の上野千鶴子氏を招いてレクチャーを行います。セクシャリティ、ナルシシズム、ヌードや性器の表象、眼差しに宿る政治性など、あらゆる角度からジェンダーと表現の関係について鋭く切りこんで行きます。古くて新しいテーマであるアートとジェンダーについて、今日的視点から考えるまたとない機会になるでしょう。

Her academic career includes Associate Professor of Heian Jyogakuin, Visiting Researcher of Department of Anthropology, University of Chicago, Associate Professor of Kyoto Seika University, Visiting Associate Professor of International Research Center of Japanese Studies, Visiting Professor of University of Bonn, Visiting Professor of Colombia University, Visiting Professor of Colegio de México, Associate Professor of Faculty of Letters, The University of Tokyo(1993-1995), Professor of Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology, The University of Tokyo(1995-2011), Short- Term Guest Professor, Ritsumeikan University(2011-2016).
Chief Director of NPO WAN (Women’s Action Network) since 2011.

Global Art Practice MFA Course would like to warmly welcome you to our special lecture “The Chopsticks” by Song Dong + Yin Xiuzhen artists from China. Starting in 2001, Song and Yin began their ongoing project titled “The Way of the Chopsticks”. They decided on the central motif of chopsticks because of their symbolism—as discrete objects coming together to function as a pair. When Song and Yin work on the project, they produce their works in isolation, never seeing the other’s works until they install in the exhibition space. Their works reference geography, urban architecture, Chinese mythology, and quotidian life.

大学院美術研究科グローバルアートプラクティス専攻（GAP）では、中国の現代アート界を牽引する、宋冬（ソン・ドン）氏と尹秀珍（イン・シウジェン）氏を招いて公開講義を開講いたします。
両氏は「The Chopsticks」として、2001年より「筷道(kuài-dào)」プロジェクトを始動しました。
個々のオブジェクトが二つで一つの組み合わせで存在し、機能するという象徴として”箸”を主題に据えたプロジェクトであり、彼らはこのプロジェクトでの作品制作においては個別に制作し、展覧会空間に設置するまで互いの作品を見ないという手法をとりながら、現在まで活動を続けています。
彼らの作品のテーマである、地理学、都市建築、中国神話、そして日常生活を見る視点など、自作や「筷道」プロジェクトについて講義を行います。

Global Art Practice MFA Course would like to warmly welcome you to our special lecture and screening by French artist, Natacha Nisic. Working in variety of media such as Super 8 or 16mm films, video, photography and drawing, Nisic has gained international acclaim with her work exploring the invisible, often magical and complexly interwoven relationships between images and words, meanings and symbols. The lecture includes a screening of Osoresan (2017), a video work made in collaboration with historian Ken Daimaru, and screened at Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions in 2018. A female−one of the few remaining successors of itako (a shamanistic medium in the Northern region of Japan)−plays a key role in the work, and with vivid imageries and layers, recollects memories of the Japanese society.

大学院美術研究科グローバルアートプラクティス専攻（GAP）では、フランス人映像アーティストのナターシャ・ニジックを招いてトークとスクリーニングを行います。ニジックは、スーパー8や16ミリフィルム、ヴィデオ、写真、ドローイングなど様々なメディアを用いて、イメージと言葉、意味と象徴性の織りなす目に見えない不思議な関係性を問う作品を数多く制作し、世界的に高く評価されてきました。今回紹介する《恐山》（2017）は、ニジックが現代史研究者の䑓丸謙とともにリサーチと撮影を行って完成させた作品で、第10回恵比寿映像祭（2018）にて発表されました。数少ない「イタコ」の伝承者である女性の語りを軸に構成されたこの作品は、鮮烈なイメージとともに日本社会の記憶を重層的に映し出しています。

Natacha Nisic
Biography:
Born in 1967, in Grenoble, France. Studied at École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (Paris), the Deutsche Film und Fernseh Akademie (Berlin), and La Fémis (Paris). Has been exhibiting worldwide, including her solo show “Echo” (Galeries Nationales du Jeu de Paume, Paris, 2014). From among many, residency at Villa Kujoyama Duo (Kyoto, 2001/2016).

ナターシャ・ニジック
講師プロフィール：
1967年グルノーブル（フランス）生まれ。フランス国立高等装飾美術学校、ドイツ映画テレビアカデミー、フランス国立映像音響芸術学院で学ぶ。個展「エコー」（ジュ・ド・ポーム国立美術館、パリ、2014）を はじめ各国で作品を発表している。ヴィラ九条山（京都、2001/2016）他、レジデンスにも多数参加。

Living/Working: When Attitudes Become Form, When Locations Become Movement

Emmanuelle Huynh
Half Vietnamese-half French, Emmanuelle Huynh studied philosophy (DEA at Pantheon Sorbonne) and dance (Mudra Béjart/Brussels). After working with Hervé Robbe, Odile Duboc, she benefited from a Villa Medicis scholarship for a project in Vietnam in 1994. Upon her return, she created the solo Múa, which inscribed in the heart of her work, multidisciplinary collaboration with artists from different fields (1995). Shinbai, le vol de l’âme with Ikebana master Seiho Okudaira was created in 2009, Spiel with butoh choreographer Akira Kasai in 2011. She managed the National Center for Contemporary Dance (CNDC)in Angers from February 2004 to December 2012, and restructured the school, notably by creating a new master’s degree called “Essais”, offering a dance, creation, and performance training program. She also initiated “Schools”, an international meeting of contemporary dance and art schools (2009, 2011 and 2013), allowing schools to perform their teachings. In September 2016, she was appointed Professor in the field of choreography, dance and performance at Beaux-arts de Paris.

エマニュエル・ユイン
ベトナム人とフランス人の両親の間に生まれる。パンテオン・ソルボンヌ大学にて哲学を学び、研究深化学位（DEA)を取得。また、振付師モーリス・べシャールがベルギー・ブリュッセルに設立した学校ムドラにてダンスを学ぶ。エルヴェ・ロブ、オディール・デュボックと共演した後、1994年にヴィラ・メディチ海外研究奨学金を得てベトナムに渡り、創作活動を行う。ベトナムから帰国後、自身のダンスの象徴でもある「異分野のアーティストとのボーダーレスなコラボレーション」をベースとしたソロ作品「Múa」（1995）を発表。2009年、「心奪(Shinbai) ～魂の略奪、あるいは飛翔～」で生け花師範・奥平清鳳と共演。2011年、「SPIEL/シュピール・遊戯」で舞踏家・笠井叡と共演。2004年2月から2012年12月にかけて、フランス・アンジェ国立振付センター（CNDC）の芸術監督を務め、ダンス、創造活動、パフォーマンスを習得する修士プログラム「Essais」を設立し、同センターの改革に貢献した。2009年、2011年、および2013年には、世界各国のコンテンポラリー・ダンスおよびアートスクールが集まり、教育内容を披露する国際会議「Schools」を企画開催。2016年9月、パリ国立高等美術学校教授就任。同校にてコレオグラフィー、ダンス、パフォーミングアートを担当。

Faculty, assistants, and students from these partner institutions and from Tokyo University of the Arts organize distinct courses with an emphasis on social art practice (the practice of contemporary art in society).
This performance and installation at the Sogetsu Kaikan on July 21st 2018 is the final presentation of an international, inter-institutional collaboration, in which a diverse group of 18 students and four educators from Tokyo University of the Arts and Beaux-Arts de Paris worked together to create a site for experimentation in dance, performance and installation.
The visions of the students, educators and the two institutions together form a unique experience at the intersection of art education and experimentation. Please look forward to its final presentation at the Sogetsu Kaikan in July.

2016年に新設された東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科グローバルアートプラクティス専攻（GAP専攻）では、海外の芸術大学とのグローバルアート共同プロジェクトを実施しております。 教員と学生が国や大学の枠組みを超えてユニットを組み、ソーシャル・アートプラクティス（現代アートの社会実践）をテーマに、さまざまな交流授業を実践する取り組みです。 そのひとつであるパリ国立高等美術学校との共同プロジェクトでは、本年、両校の国際色豊かな学生18人と教員4人が、コラボレーションを通してダンス・パフォーマンス・インスタレーションの実験の場を作り、そこで制作した作品を2018年7月21日（土）に草月会館にて発表いたします。 学生、教員、そして両校のビジョンが交差し、美術教育と実験の交差するこの取り組みの成果に、どうぞご期待ください。 ※草月プラザ開館時間9:30より、インスタレーションなど一部作品を公開します。 広報資料（外部サイト） https://mailchi.mp/6270ab371731/gap
